The City of Roswell has completed a major 2022 Parks Bond project to modernize lighting at athletic fields and racquet courts across the City, bringing brighter, more energy-efficient LED technology to Roswell’s recreation facilities.

To mark the completion of the project, the City is celebrating with a virtual ribbon cutting that showcases the new lighting in action and the athletes and community members these improvements were designed to serve.

A Citywide Investment in Roswell’s Parks

Approved by Roswell City Council in November 2025, the project replaced aging metal halide lighting systems with 699 high-efficiency LED fixtures installed on 167 existing poles at athletic fields and racquet courts across Roswell.

The improvements were funded entirely through the voter-approved 2022 Parks Bond Program and represent a significant investment in the long-term quality, efficiency and reliability of Roswell’s recreation facilities.

The new system is expected to reduce energy use by approximately 54%, lowering annual utility costs while also reducing maintenance needs and improving operational efficiency.

More Than New Lights

While the new technology provides significant operational benefits, the impact of the project extends beyond energy and cost savings.

The improvements provide more reliable lighting for the athletes, families, leagues and residents who use Roswell’s parks throughout the year, enhancing the overall experience at the City’s athletic facilities.

Over the next 10 years, the City projects more than $1.3 million in combined energy savings, staffing efficiencies and avoided maintenance costs from the LED conversion.

The project builds on the success of a 2021 LED lighting pilot at the Grimes Bridge Soccer Fields, which demonstrated the operational and community benefits of converting the City’s athletic lighting to LED technology.

The completion of the citywide conversion brings that technology to athletic facilities throughout Roswell and represents another completed investment through the 2022 Parks Bond Program.
