After nearly a year of construction, the transformation of Roswell Area Park Pond is entering its final stretch.
The City of Roswell’s $3.1 million Roswell Area Park Pond Improvements project is approximately 90% complete, with major construction activities including dredging, reconstruction of the pond embankment and installation of the new retaining wall now complete. The project remains within its approved schedule and budget. Crews are putting the finishing touches on the project through final grading, landscaping and paving, with substantial completion anticipated for Tuesday, Sept. 8.
From Aging Infrastructure to a Renewed Pond
When construction began in fall 2025, the project set out to address several long-term infrastructure and environmental challenges at the pond.
As detailed in the City’s September 2025 project announcement, the pond was originally constructed as a farm pond in the 1950s and was not designed to serve as a modern stormwater facility. Over time, tree-root infiltration weakened the embankment, aging pipes and retaining walls deteriorated, and accumulated sediment reduced the pond’s depth and stormwater storage capacity.
Nearly a year later, many of the improvements originally presented through the project’s plans and renderings are now taking shape across the pond and surrounding landscape.
Major improvements include:
- Reconstruction of the pond embankment
- Dredging to remove accumulated sediment and improve pond capacity and function
- Installation and replacement of stormwater infrastructure
- Installation of pond forebays to help manage incoming sediment
- Replacement and improvement of retaining walls
- Improvements to the pond trail
- New landscaping and native plantings
- Installation of turtle habitats to support the pond ecosystem
- Converting the stormwater pond to a regional stormwater practice for water quality credits for purchase
As part of the landscaping work, 35 trees have been planted around the project area.
Signs of the pond’s environmental recovery are already visible. Turtles and frogs have begun naturally returning to the pond as construction moves toward completion.
Then and Now: The Project Vision Takes Shape
When the project was announced in September 2025, conceptual renderings provided residents with an early look at the planned improvements to Roswell Area Park Pond.
Now approximately 90% complete, the project is beginning to reflect that vision as major construction wraps up and crews complete final grading, landscaping and paving.
An Investment in Roswell’s Parks
The Roswell Area Park Pond Improvements project is funded through Roswell’s voter-approved 2022 Bond Program.
The investment goes beyond improving the appearance of the pond. It addresses aging infrastructure, strengthens the stormwater function, supports the surrounding environment and helps preserve an important community amenity for future generations.
With major construction now complete and final site work underway, residents will soon be able to experience the results firsthand.
Fishing and Pond Restocking
As the Roswell Area Park Pond Improvements project nears completion, the pond and surrounding areas will begin transitioning back to public use. However, fishing will not immediately resume when the pond reopens.
Following construction, the pond will need time to stabilize before the City begins a phased fish restocking process. To help the fish population become reestablished, visitors are asked not to fish at the pond at this time.
The restocking process will occur in phases over the coming months, with fishing currently anticipated to resume in late summer or fall 2027. Temporary signage will be placed around the pond as areas reopen to remind visitors that fishing remains temporarily restricted while the restocking process is underway.
The City will continue to provide updates on the restocking process and share additional information as the pond moves closer to reopening for fishing.
