Mayor and Council – Regular Meeting Recap

Mayor’s Report
The meeting opened with three items under the Mayor’s Report, each of them dealing with the City’s legal department. The first item (Mayor’s Report, Item 1) was a recognition of City Attorney David Davidson, who will retire on Sept. 1, 2026, after 26 years of working for the City of Roswell. After thanking Mr. Davidson for his service to the community, Mayor Robichaux appointed Assistant City Attorney Joseph Cusack as the new City Attorney, effective Sept. 2 (Mayor’s Report, Item 2). That was followed by a ceremonial swearing-in of Mr. Cusack as the new City Attorney (Mayor’s Report, Item 3). Consent Agenda
Council then voted unanimously in favor of approving four items on the Consent Agenda (Consent Agenda, Items 1-4):
- Minutes of the August 10, 2026, Mayor and Council meeting
- A resolution to apply for and accept a Georgia Council for the Arts Facilities Grant in an amount not to exceed $45,000. The grant money would be used for the expansion project at the Art Center West Ceramics Studio.
- Authorization for a pair of contracts to be executed for purchase and installation of light poles at the Smith Plantation Trail. The contract for purchase of the light poles and fixtures is with Sesco Lighting in the amount of $171,030. The contract for installation is with Prime Contractors in the amount of $171,871.
Regular Agenda
There was just one item on the regular agenda, which was a request to accept a donation from the organizers of the Roswell Arts Festival (Regular Agenda, Item 1). The $48,000 donation would assist with updates to Liberty Square Park, East Roswell Dog Park, and the Crabapple Center Performing Arts Studio. Council unanimously approved accepting the donation, as well as the necessary budget amendment to allow that money to be accepted.
City Attorney’s Report
Two items appeared on the City Attorney’s Report. The first, which received unanimous approval, was a resolution authorizing the City Attorney to file a petition for temporary tax collection relief (City Attorney’s Report, Item 2). This action stems from the Fulton County Tax Assessor being unable to complete the annual tax assessment process in a timely fashion. The resolution that was passed authorizes Roswell’s City Attorney to ask the Superior Court of Fulton County for permission to temporarily collect taxes if the County Assessor fails to complete the tax assessment process.
The final item, also approved unanimously, was a recommendation to go into Closure at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2026, ahead of the regularly scheduled meeting, for the purpose of discussing personnel, litigation and/or real estate (City Attorney’s Report, Item 3).

The next regularly scheduled City Council meeting will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026. That meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at City Hall (38 Hill Street).
